This seems to have started happening when I was messing around with ca.voip.ms, now I’ve switched back to montreal1 but the problem remains. By the way, I’m using Acrobits, I’ve tried both the Softphone and Groundwire.
I’ve already tried disabling ‘call integration’ but the behaviour is the same.
Has anyone encountered this sound before? I’m not sure what it means or represents. Something to do with the call struggling to connect.
I did figure out that using UDP works a lot better than TCP in my use case. You can hear the sound, but only for about a second, then the outbound call connects.
But it’s unfortunate, because I’d like to have call encryption enabled, and since that relies on TLS (which is a type of TCP, right?) I get that problem again when I enable call encryption.
I wonder if there is some other setting I am missing.
I recall that this sound indicates that you are not registered on the voip.ms server. The voiip.ms badge in the upper left corner of the groundwire screen will be red if not connected and flashing green and red if trying to connect. Did you try to remove the registration from groundwire and re-install it? That seems to work for me. It is almost as if their server loses your identity.
@manfred, thanks for your tip! Now that I think of it, I have noticed Groundwire losing registration occasionally and briefly. It seems that when you open the app, it switches registration from the Push server to the actual Groundwire app, which can sometimes cause hiccups. I’m not sure what the solution would be. Maybe just wait a few seconds before dialing out perhaps.
I think I figured it out, thanks for your help and insight! I enabled encryption with TLS (SIP) and Outbound calls seem to be working now, I just have to make sure to open the Groundwire app and wait a second before dialing out. I think the problem was I was using the native android Dialer, which was preventing the registration from changing from the Push SIPIS server to the Groundwire app on my device. You have to open Groundwire for the registration to change to the actual device. Just like you said ‘wait for the green light’. Awesome, thank you!!
