Once again, voicemail transcription is down and emails withheld

Looks like I spoke too soon in this July topic:

Big improvement in VOIP.MS’s emailing of voicemails - General - VoIP.ms Community Forum

…because transcription for voicemail is down again today (Oct 22) since at least 1:30pm Eastern time (and possibly longer). At least seven hours so far. I see the problem in two entirely separate VOIP.MS accounts, so I conclude that it affects all VOIP.MS accounts.

In that July thread I complimented VOIP.MS on adjusting their system to email voicemail audio even when transcription isn’t working, but they’ve returned to their former defective behavior: not emailing the audio or the transcript, leaving the customer unaware that they’ve even received an email. And because it’s now the weekend, I don’t expect the problem to be fixed until Monday, October 26.

The failure of voicemail transcription happens a few times a year at VOIP.MS. It perplexes me deeply that VOIP.MS hasn’t fixed it permanently.

For business clients, I recommend not signing up for transcription because they can’t afford to have voicemails withheld entirely if they depend on voicemail delivery by email.

Don’t take my word for any of this: you could turn on transcription for one of your voicemail boxes, set it to deliver by email, then leave yourself a message of one sentence and see whether you receive it. (If you do, it might indicate that the problem was finally solved.)

(When an outage like this happens, I’ve found it useless to create a ticket because tech support usually says “We don’t see a problem.” And as usual, there’s no mention of the problem at https://status.voip.ms )
