Big improvement in VOIP.MS's emailing of voicemails

From July 25 to July 27, 2026, VOIP.MS’s voicemail transcription feature had an outage. Such outages occur about twice a year at VOIP.MS.

Sometime in the past few weeks, VOIP.MS has changed their system to make these outages much less bothersome. The details:

• In the past, during a voicemail transcription outage, any voicemail box with transcription turned on wouldn’t email its voicemail messages during the outage. So the owner wouldn’t know that a new voicemail message had arrived. This is very bad for anyone, especially a business user. VOIP.MS’s system would withhold the voicemails until the transcription engine was back in action, then, all at once, email the transcriptions for the accumulated voicemails.

• Much better: during this week’s transcription outage, VOIP.MS’s system promptly emailed each voicemail received. The transcription wasn’t included; instead, the email contained this line: There was a failure while processing your transcription request. But the voicemail audio file was attached, so the recipient could listen to it.

Not having the transcription was a very minor problem, whereas not receiving the voicemail at all was a major problem. My thanks to VOIP.MS for making this improvement.
