So, I just got the new that Voip.ms now has its own softphone? It looks identical to Groundwire/Acrobits. Is it a “white label” edition of it and does it have all the features of Groundwire? The screen shots look like so.
That’s interesting. I like Groundwire. But it doesn’t work with MMS images. Their support says the SIP protocol doesn’t support it. I wonder if the new office VoIP.ms softphone app works with images.
It’s a crippled version of Groundwire. It allows only one SIP account. The usual red / green indicator for SIP registration is absent.
VOIP.MS could have chosen an app that does MMS. Instead, they got one that does nothing new. The app is free, yet still feels overpriced.
I like VOIP.MS overall, but the company has a goofy side. This is the latest example of goofy. Here’s how I imagine the company meeting went: “I think that we should get a softphone app that does nothing new at all.” “Great idea, D.R. Your genius knows no bounds.”
Instead, I’ll use the full-feaured Groundwire that I happily paid $10 for.
Couldn’t disagree more. The VoIP.ms Softphone does exactly what it’s supposed to do and does it well. It’s the perfect complement to tablets with a data-only SIM that blocks phone calls. Calls through the VoIP.ms app work flawlessly. What is it about free that you find disappointing?
DavidR, we’ve waited a long time for good VOIP.MS MMS via an app. (The Textable app does MMS at VOIP.MS but it’s buggy and costs $5 monthly.) Before you roll out the MMS that you’re referring to here, I hope that you give some VOIP.MS power users a chance to kick the tires. I suggest this because, while I’m fond of VOIP.MS, the company has released some half-baked features in the past (before you became CEO), and I deeply want your MMS to be excellent. I’ve been at VOIP.MS for about 15 years, so I’d volunteer.
Sorry for posting this here, but I’d like to create a new post (a new thread) but I can’t see any way to do that (I’m on a PC running Firefox if that matters). I can apparently reply to a post, so that’s what I’m doing.
This is because you have a new account. I think the forum admin have to do something, or it will unlock automatically after you complete your profile or something like that. I do not remember exactly how it happened. But the admins at @VoIP.ms can fix that (@DavidR ?).
I’ve ben using Groundwire for a decade too, but Voip.ms’s version has a built-in sms facility, which was not functional in the groundwire I was using. I like it.
Late to this thread, but I’m using the Voip.ms soft phone app for iPhone and it while it places and receives calls okay, it cannot send SMS. Support (after a week) said “using the SMS service through apps is not guaranteed, since the function is still in beta and and whether it works or not relies heavily on the connection status of the app.” That’s odd, considering it’s Voip.ms ’s own app, and it connects fine. But whatever. Maybe other people’s problems are similar to mine: incomplete Voip.ms execution.
The VoIP.ms softphone doesn’t work well for international calls – where one would think VoIP would be of most value to users as it is more expensive calling overseas.
When using the VoIP.ms softphone to make outbound calls to international phones, my caller ID shows up as some random Eastern European number despite all attempts on my end - whether using only premium routing, using VoIP ID numbers, registered/verified numbers, or manual entries on the caller ID setup page. And when I say random, I mean it is a different number / country code each time, confusing recipients of my call to no end.
Selected one of the VoIP.ms DIDs that I own so it is legit. I’ve tried selecting VoIP-verified numbers (landline and mobile) and entered customer caller ID as well and none work. Recipient sees a caller ID from a random Eastern European (so far) number from Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Croatia, etc. Very weird and confusing as my recipients think it is some spam call and don’t want to answer!
And yes, both the main and subaccount settings are identical, so that should not be the issue.
Their Caller ID and Attestation system is a hot mess. My outbound Caller ID shows the wrong information and they just blame everyone else for it. Most of my incoming Caller ID doesn’t even show real names anymore, just a city and state. And their Attestation setup is backwards: it blocks legitimate callers on established landlines, but somehow still lets spammers slip right through.
