Hello! I referred someone to join VoIP.ms, they will be porting their number from Ooma to VoIP.ms. Canadian DID from NS. I will be the one doing this process for them, so I’m wondering if anyone has experience with this. Just looking for tips to make sure it goes smoothly.
I’m back to report how the process went! It seems to be going smoothly, and at this point I’m comfortable sharing the method and outcome.
It was rather simple, just fill out the port request as normal. I requested a CSR document from Ooma, but they refused to provide one, saying ‘all the information you need is in your online account dashboard’.
So, I used the normal civic service address in the port request, and for account number, it was the 10 digit phone number preceded by a 1, i.e. 15555551234. PIN was left blank.
Received FOC a couple of days later, which is two days from now, so it seems to have gone perfectly.
And in case anyone reads this in the future, I’ve read that Ooma is predatory, and will not close your Ooma account when your number is ported out. Rather, they will assign a new phone number and continue billing. I will definitely be keeping a close eye on that, and will cancel the account as soon as the number port is complete.
