I enabled a Port OUT PIN on my main account, however after reviewing the help section, I don’t think it is enabled for my number, which was originally ported to voip.ms from a Canadian phone company. I don’t see the lock icon in DIDs section
Is there anything else I can do to stop any malicious porting request? I’m asking cause the SMS verification was the thing that protected me from a scam as i know my data from the browser was breached and exposed online. Already changed all passwords and enabled 2fa whenever i can. The guy who was impersonating the bank, had my other details including the name, card number, just needed the 2FA sms code to login to my account. This happened 3 months ago.
I don’t think they have any piece of ID from me, but who knows. And if they have one, how can i stop them from porting the number then? If I cant enforce PIN lock for my current number then can I get a US based number which should have the port out PIN option? I can then associate it with the bank account only.
“If you wish to port out a number from our service you can do so at any time by starting a port request with the new provider you will use. As for the information you will need, you can request it via email at ports@voip.ms from the email address associated with your account, just let us know the number you will port.“
I guess the above should make it impossible for someone else to port out my number, since the request would have to be initiated from my email address. Am I right?
Yeah, I see it. I’m still interested about how Voip.ms tries to prevent the so called “SIM Swap scam”, in the case of numbers that don’t have the PortOut pin protection by default.
Hope this is ok to revive this thread - I am looking to port out a number and I remember setting a PIN with the field shown in the screen shot clip above.
However, it is GONE NOW.
I opened a support ticket via sending an email to ports@voip.ms as I read that you have to have them send you the port out information now. As many are reporting, I have had no response other than the automatic one.
What is going on? Should I start the process to port everything out? There are important numbers that I have here and ever since the news that venture capital had bought them out I have been worried about it. Is this the beginning of the end?
Should I just put in a port with my account number and the PIN that I set up last year some time?
Edit - OK, I found my reply from two days ago, I don’t know how I missed it. I really don’t like the current set up and I guess I need to start looking at alternatives.
