Outbound Routing Rules

Hi,

I am trying to find out how to create Outbound Routing Rules.

I am currently using 3CX and considering moving to VOIP.MS PBX.

Seems like the inbound rules are controlled by the IVR, but can’t find setting up outbound rules.

I have several phone numbers setup in VOIP.MS, but need a way access them from the extensions, like dialing a code. Dial #4 + 10 digit number for one group of outbound numbers, and just dial a 10 digit number for another outbound group.

IVRs don’t control outbound routes. With Voip.ms when you use them purely for trunking, your 3CX software controls the outbound routes. When your use Voip.ms and their PBX features instead of 3CX, then each sub account has direct 10 digit dialing ability without any access codes.

So there is no way with VOIP.MS to have outbound routing codes, like dial 9 + 10 digit to select an available outbound trunk.

I have several trunks to select from.

That is a feature of your PBX. Not VOIP ms

Unfortunately the VOIP.MS PBX won’t work.

Hello @sonnyh,

In fact, VoIP.ms is primarily a SIP trunk / DID provider.

  • It gives you phone numbers,
  • inbound routing options,
  • and a “complementary” set of built-in PBX-like features (IVR, call forwarding, queues, voicemail, etc.) that are really useful for simple installations. Many profit for them as they are more than enough.

But you still need a PBX for more advanced functionalities like outbound routing rules.

I am looking at FREEPBX for my setup.

Unfortunately 3CX is getting expensive, but I really like it.

FreePBX will certainly do the job. I never used it as it was not on the map 15 years ago :blush:. You can then add voip.ms as a trunk, and setup you whole PBX with the advanced features you need.

Yes, 3CX is a good solution but expensive, especially if one has enough skills to self-host.
