The new VOIP.MS softapp

It’s unfortunately taking more time than expected, but it’s definitely coming. Expect good news soon.

Hi, the app on android dont boot on startup ? Do you have this problem ?

Consider the first version out today!

I’m glad voip.ms chose Acrobits for the voip.ms app, good choice as Acrobits pushes incoming phone calls to the cellphone (or tablet) and the cellphone doesn’t need to be continually connected to the voip.ms servers consuming battery.

I still use Michael Kourlas’s voip.ms texting app as it used the voip.ms API and whether I grab my cellphone or tablet, the entire sms conversation is on both devices. With Acrobits, an incoming sms is visible only on the first device (tablet or phone) to grab the sms. And similarly when sending, only the device I send from has the message and not the other device.

I bought Acrobits Groundwire so could use either Groundwire or voip.ms’s branded one. For sms I’ll continue using Michael Kourlas’s app. Thanks Michael!

as of July 17th 2025 I have been making and receving calls and sending and receving texts on the IOS app on my iPhone 11 perfectly. No VM IOS notifications yet. But they put it on their list of feature requests.

did you setup TLS on the iOS app version? The wiki lists instructions that I assume are only for Android - I do not see the Advanced Settings on iOS to set it up.

There doesn’t seem to be an option to activate TLS yet on the iOS app have you looked or triedyourself?

Yes, I have tried to find it in the app - that’s what i meant when i said that I do not see the Advanced Settings on iOS to set it up. Hopefully this is coming very soon - won’t use it otherwise. Thanks

The new version of the iOS app has new transport protocol options for TLS (SIP) and TLS (SIPS) in the advanced settings. After enabling encrypted calling on the sub account and in the app, the web portal shows as registered but outgoing calls fail with call state - “Not acceptable here”. Has anyone faced this and had any luck with encrypted calling through the iOS app?

Thanks

Hello @BigBossman,

AFAIK, it should be set to “tls (sip)”. Also, make sure your sub account is configured properly. It might be the reason for this message. (Review the SRTP settings too.)

Kind regards.

@BigBossman I ran into the same issue and asked customer support

My apologies but at the moment we do not offer TLS for iOS, we are always working on offering better and more functions, sadly there is no ETA for the service to be released.

Hopefully it’s on the roadmap

I’m excited about the iOS softapp, hopefully it will be improved. I ran into the lack of TLS also.

The most critical feature for me is for SMS/MMS (RCS I know will be harder) to work seamlessly. These days text messaging is maybe even more essential than voice calls!

Unfortunately, right now only about half of the messages sent to my # are being received by the iOS softapp (and in every case they are being received by voip.ms, because they show up in the SMS/MMS Message Center, it’s not a carrier issue). Is anyone else seeing this? Sending SMS via the softapp and SIP works every time, it’s only receiving that is intermittent.

And there does not appear to be MMS support at all. Controlling their own client apps seems like a great opportunity for VOIP.ms to build MMS support in and not be limited to what SIP SIMPLE supports.
