Phone paging or broadcast

I have searched for this and couldn’t find a similar topic…

What I was looking at doing was being able to broadcast a message or page to the other handsets on an installation to find a person… Basically, press a sequence and all phones would then activate the speaker and I could deliver a message. I am likely calling it the wrong thing and there is a mountain of data to implement this function, but it is hiding very nicely on me.

Thanks kindly for any help!

Hello @jucecomputers,

I think what you are looking for is a “paging” mechanism (or group paging). This is often found on PBX systems, but this is not a voip.ms feature.

I think of two possible way for you to implement that:

  1. Buy sip phones that have this multicast paging built-in. More and more brands have that included.
  2. Install your own local PBX and set-up your “group chat” or zone paging, etc., and then use voip.ms trunks for your calls. This solution is more involving and requires more experience.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards!

You cannot do paging or broadcast directly through VoIP.ms. To make all phones auto‑answer on speaker, you must either use SIP phones with multicast paging or set up your own local PBX and use VoIP.ms only as the trunk.

Thank you kindly for reaching out. Now to learn multicast lol. The phones are brand new Grandstream devices listing multicast.

Thank you kindly for reaching out. Maybe I’ll do a PBX in our shop for the experience. Now to learn multicast lol. The phones are brand new Grandstream devices listing multicast.

Hello @jucecomputers,

You should be in good hands with Grandstream manuals (and web searches or AI).

  • The setup will be through the WebUI of each phone.

  • You will probably have to setup one of the Programmable Keys and then set up your Multicast Paging there.

Good luck and kind regards!
