Inconsistent receipt of SMS with Voip.ms app

Calling via the Voip.ms app on Android works fine.

But I do not consistently receive messages unless I deliberately keep phone on and app running. I end up having to search through my email (which I use as a backup delivery) to reconstruct conversations, which, is basically, unacceptable, as it only contains received messages and no contact info save the phone number.

It always works when I’ve deliberately opened the app and the number is registered. It does not always work (but sometimes does) when the app is in the background, or my phone is off, or not connected to the internet. I disconnect frequently and on purpose, but I still need to successfully receive messages.

Is anybody else having this problem? How can I resolve it—and keep the proper, threaded UI for text messages?

Have you activated the option in Android to authorize the app to run in background?

  • The location of this option depends of your Android version.
  • If it is quite recent, maybe a long-press on the icon → Application details ->Battery usage by apps → Authorize running in the background.
  • (Something like that, I translate from French here.)
  • Or from the main Settings → Battery → Usage by apps → pick the voip.ms sms app → Authorize running in the background.

This is most probably the reason you have this behaviour.
