I have the exactly same issue: voice calling and receiving are fine, sending SMS is fine, but no SMS receiving on voip.ms softphones on either iOS or Android. However, SMS web center works flawlessly (I am using voip.ms SMS app on Android).
I think you should open a ticket and also send the information to William and let them know that the issue of softphone not receiving SMS does exist.
I opened a ticket and chatted with William. Their response is that they have checked the settings on their end and everything is fine, and if my phone is configured properly, I should be able to receive SMs.
I know it is not true. It should be problems at their end in linking to sub account. In all the cases, SMS has reached the server. I use voip.ms SMS app and can receive them all. I tested several other softphones including Groundwire, Linphone, and MizuPhone, no of them can receive SMS. A week or two ago, I can receive SMS using voip.ms softphones although with an annoying delay about 30 seconds. I also open a ticket on that and still wait for solution.
Having same issue with not being able to receive sms messages on my iPhone 17, through groundwire. I can send sms and calling works fine. I have confirmed the recommended settings”simple” is turned on. I only have a single did associated with my account.
The situation has been reported by various clients and users. Our technical team is currently investigating the matter, and we will provide a timely update. Thanks for your patience on this
I’ve run into the same thing, and the softphone apps just don’t seem to receive SMS reliably right now. What’s worked perfectly for me is using the separate voip.ms SMS app — the one that handles only texting and isn’t tied to any softphone. Incoming messages show up instantly there, every time. If you haven’t tried that yet, I’d definitely recommend it while they sort out whatever is going on with SMS delivery to the softphones.
Thanks for the reminder, I quit using the VoIP.ms SMS app a few years ago when voip.ms starting supporting SMS on Zoiper. May have to re-install it as the WAF is pretty low atm.
Unfortunately, I’ve found that you really do have to keep following up every week on trouble tickets. They’ll usually reply saying they made some changes and the issue should be fixed, but most of the time nothing has actually changed. I honestly sometimes wonder if they really adjusted anything or if they’re just hoping you’ll assume it’s resolved and move on. But after enough follow‑ups, they eventually make the one change that actually fixes it. It just takes persistence.
Agree! They tell you that they have found nothing on their side and the problem is on your end. Actually, this SMS issue is so easy to replicate. They probably have already softphones installed and just need to take a few seconds to test it. You will not blame the users:).
I have the voice.ms app on two separate devices and have never seen SMS work from the app. Forwarding to voicemail works fine for me, but to this day I have not received one single SMS from the app and every time I have tried to send SMS from it, it fails. I just thought it was still in beta.
To those who have it working, can you please tell me how? Every time I inquire with VoIP.MS, I am told that it’s not supported yet and it’s still in beta and that’s it. That’s been happening for 2 years.
I meant that the SMS service itself was beta, that’s what I was told. I think I’m running the latest version of the app, but checking it does show version 0.0.6 build 2334721… Sounds like a beta build to me, but I got it from the Play store and there aren’t any updates available. Is that the proper channel?
To clarify, The voice.ms app works very well with everything but SMS, notifications are not the issue.
I can confirm that I can receive SMS on voip.ms softphone on both Android and iOS. There seems to be an improvement (from about 45 seconds to 15 seconds) in delay in receiving SMS. Thanks, voip.ms, for the effort.
