Distinctive ring based on which DID phone number is receiving a call

I want to assign distinctive ring tones based on the called number (DID). That way, I can identify which of my phone numbers is being called, based on the ring pattern. Voipo had this feature as a setting in the Voipo website interface.

This type of distinctive ring is supposedly supported by some voip adapters (maybe Grandstream HT802 or Cisco ATA191). I understand that the adapter-based feature depends on technical requirements for the service provider. For example, the adapter may require SIP INVITE messages to include an Alert-Info header or similar signaling that specifies the called number or DID for the incoming call.

This seems like a must-have feature for anyone with multiple phone numbers.

Has anyone found a way to set this up?

Any chance Voip.ms will add this feature to the DID settings in the website interface?

Please note: There is a different type of distinctive ring based on the phone number calling INTO your DID. This feature seems to be easier to set up, but it does not seem very useful unless you are hiding out from a particular caller.

Welcome Ringo!

The HT802 should be able to use the Alert-Info header if voip.ms generates it. According to the manual (edited for display) the Alert-Info would need to specify which ring tone to use.

I don’t see a way to set the Alert-Info based on DID but if you have Caller ID displays voip.ms has a box in the Edit DID Settings page that would allow you to put a text prefix on the name:

The HT should pass Caller ID number and name over the analog connection. What displays could be limited by your Caller ID display.
