Can't upgrade HT801V2 firmware, no support

I’ve tried all the different way to upgrade an HT801V2, but it won’t. When I try with a file it says there is an error. I have tried every V2 firmware I can find, at least 10 of them. When I try with HTTP (firmware.grandstream.com) and reboot, nothing happens. If I use an HT801V1, it updates fine with the exact same HTTP settings.
I tried making a Grandstream help center account, but I never get the validating email, so I can’t actually contact support. So I’m posting here to see if anyone has a solution while I figure out how to get some response from Grandstream. Thanks

Hello drzapp

We would greatly appreciate it if you could share with the community the specific error message you are encountering, along with screenshots of the upgrade process. Additionally, if you could provide links to the files being used, it would be very helpful.

I get two errors- the first is “Invalid file. The file should be ht80xv2fw.bin”
If I rename the file to ht80xv2fw.bin, I get “Invalid file”. Editing the binary to reflect the new name internally gets the “invalid file” error.

The readme explains that to upgrade via local directory, the FW has to be below 1.0.39, so I tried several older versions I found on Softpedia. I currently have 1.0.5.5.

If HT8xx firmware version is equal or older than in 1.0.39.4, users cannot use web UI option “Upload from Local Directory” to upload a firmware file equal to or newer than 1.0.41.2. Please configure web UI option “Firmware Upgrade and Provisioning” to set a valid method for the device to obtain firmware via TFTP/HTTP/HTTPS over the network.

None of these worked, giving the same errors, depending on if I renamed the files or not.

Using the “Always check new firmware at boot up” with HTTP does nothing, though my router log shows the HT801 (192.168.1.158) does ping the correct firmware server.

I have hardware reset the HT801 multiple times- powered up, not powered up, 30 sec, 60 sec… Anyone have clever ideas?

Still looking for answers…

I just downloaded and installed upgraded firmware on my new HT802 V2 with no problems.

You mentioned trying to rename the file, I wonder if you were trying to upgrade the device with the zip file from grandstream. The zip file is an archive that contains the upgrade, but you have to extract it. Depending on your computer, you might do so by double-clicking the file, or by typing something like unzip Release_HT80xV2_1.0.5.5.zip in the command prompt, and that should give you the .bin file you can upload to the device.
