Grandstream ATA Users - Fix your number only Caller ID

If you use a Grandstream ATA like the HT801, HT802, or HT812 and recently started to only get phone numbers with your caller id instead of name and number, this was likely caused by a recent software update to version 1.0.59.3

In this and newer versions you have to go into the settings for each FXS port and switch " Caller ID Transmission Mode:" to “Multiple Data Message Format”. In this software version, Single Data Message Format became the default.

I was curious if this applied to HT8xxV2 systems, but it doesn’t seem to

Interesting, I have hardware V2.1A and updated, but I did not check if there was an issue. I applied the above settings right away. Anyway, all is working fine.

And thank you to @Quack for this post!

I have an intermittent problem that I think is either caused by my ATA or cordless phone. Sometimes when you pick up the phone you’ll hear static and the call will end up going to voicemail. If you’re quick enough with the flash button sometimes you can manage to answer the call. After enabling automatic reboots on my HT802 it occurs less often, but still enough to be annoying.

That’s why I enabled automatic updates on my HT802. I wish grandstream had some competition as far as ATAs that are still supported. I’ve thought about upgrading to the HT812v2 as in my limited experience helping someone set it up it seems a little better.
