Can't seem to register?

Hello all – I have just recently joined and am having some difficulties getting the service set up. The platform seems very robust and flexible but also no terribly intuitive. I have managed to:

  1. Port over my DID

  2. transfer some funds to my account

  3. download the softphone

  4. log in successfully

On the main page under “registration status” it says “no registration found,” which i presume is related why I cannot get the service to work. I have gone into the DID Numbers>Manage DID numbers configuration page and there see my DID. I click the little memo pad and pen icon next to it to bring up “Routing settings”. Under SIP/IAX i have SIP/[main user name]. All other entries at the top are left as default values. Under “DID/Point of Presence” I have radio button next to “amsterdam1.voip.ms” selected under the “International” tab. Under “SMS/Message service” I have “enable SMS” and the account number selected next to the enabled “link the SMS received to this DID account”. Otherwise all settings left at default values.

In the (iphone iOS) softphone I have entered my email address as the “user name” and my voip.ms password as the password and the same value for “domain” as used for “DID/Point of Presence” (amsterdam1.voip.ms) in the Routing setting page.

I cannot get either incoming or outgoing calls to work, although it does seem to display them as missed calls? I have tried to very carefully check everthing with the help of the Wiki page but it seems I am doing something wrong. Any assistance much appreciated.

I also just notice that when I click on my user name at the top of the screen in the app, it brings up a page that again shows my user name, but then displays “not authorised” next to it. I assume this is relevant.

If I am following you correctly, it looks like the main issue is that you’re trying to register using your email address, but VoIP.ms doesn’t use your email for SIP login.

Exactly. The portal login and main registration username are using two different credentials.

The main registration username is your account number. You set both passwords (portal and main registration) in Main Menu > Account Settings > Security tab.

Thanks to both you — I just had the sense I was overlooking something simple. All working fine now. I have noticed some people complaining it takes a ”long time” for SMS to arrive — whilst it’s not near instantaneous like on a mobile network, I’m finding messages arrive in 30-40 seconds which for most uses is fine for me.

Yes, this is about what I am getting too (since years of use).

Welcome to the land of VoIP.MS!

Stick to cellular if time sensitive as it’s much more reliable than the internet.
