Hi all,
We’ve built a hosted web app that turns your VoIP.ms DIDs into a browser-based phone (think Google Voice, but running on top of your own VoIP.ms account). It’s aimed mainly at less-technical users, for example people who’d love a Google Voice-style experience but find VoIP.ms itself a bit intimidating to set up and live in day to day (e.g. the partner, parent, or friend you might have brought onto VoIP.ms yourself). It’s at an early beta stage and we’re looking for a handful of testers to kick the tires and tell us what’s broken.
What it does
- Make and receive calls right in the browser (WebRTC, nothing to install)
- Send and receive SMS
- Manage multiple DIDs in one place: label them, and pick which number you call/text from
- Works on desktop and mobile browsers
- It’s opinionated: we setup a voicemail for each connected number for example
How it works under the hood
- During setup it creates a dedicated sub-account and points the DID(s) you choose at it. Your main account and any existing devices/registrations are left alone.
- Our server registers that sub-account over SIP and bridges the audio to your browser over WebRTC.
- Media is relayed through our backend.
About your credentials
- It requires your VoIP.ms API password to be able to list your DIDs, setup sub-account(s), sync SMSes, etc.
- It’s stored encrypted. Sub-account SIP passwords are encrypted at rest too.
- Everything it changes on your account is saved first, so connecting can be undone.
- We’re not officially affiliated with or endorsed by VoIP.ms.
It’s early so things might change quickly.
About cost: we have to relay audio through our own WebRTC bridge, which costs money, so we can’t promise it’ll stay free forever. But if we do introduce pricing later, it’ll be reasonable and announced in advance.
We’re happy to answer any questions.
