Grand stream HT-802 - terrible static, then no dial tone after reboot

Have a Grandstream HT-802 with the yellow web ui. Was having issues with TERRIBLE static on the phones. I tested my polycom vvx VoIP phone and that was crystal clear, so not an Internet or VoIP.ms problem.

I rebooted the ATA and then I had no dial tone at all. Web ui showed registered, but it never would detect if the phone was off hook or not. I created a sub account and registered FXS port 2 without TLS to make sure it wasn’t a TLS issue. That registers fine too and UI showed when it was ringing or not- but no dial tone.

In the end it was the USB power adapter. I found a spare mini usb cable and plugged it right into my Proxmox server so it’s getting power from my always on machine where my opnsense router is, instead of the Walwart style plug that Grandstream shipped with it. Now we’re back in business. Crystal clear call quality.

When in doubt, check the power supply!

Hello @kjstech,

Thank you for this piece of information. I have the same device. I owned the previous generation before it would not work anymore. I had the same static issue with it. Now I have the new one, and sometimes I have static. But it might be my old DECT phone plug on it… Or maybe not after reading this. I must say I am a bit disappointed with the quality of the device. They did not improve it much through the years.

The issue I have these times is that after a couple days the phones would not ring at all. The device thinks it is still connected, but voip.ms shows a disconnect status. The only solution I found is plug the device in a “smart switch” that reboots the HT802 (power off/on) every day during the night (using Home Assistant).

Kind regards!
