Is there a milliwatt tone test number to call?

(examples: 213-621-0002 or 940-387-5097)

I seem to have varying audio levels. I hope that the POP is adjusted correctly.

I have not seen anything listed here like the copper landline companies used to have such as 213 123-9945

This is not possible with IP telephony as the means of communication is not a land line (PSTN), but IP.

On the other side, if you use an ATA, maybe your device has an option for you to dial so you can get the desired milliwatt tone test.

  • Check if you have a tone generator.
  • Adjust TX/RX Gain as needed.

That being said, if you want to test sound and DFTM, you have two codes for that:

  • 4443 (Echo Test): This code is used to access the echo test, with a new account this code can be dialed even without funds, it is useful to verify the quality on your line.
  • 4747 (DTMF Test): This code is used to access the dtmf test, with a new account this code can be dialed even without funds, it is useful to verify if the dtmf is configured properly.

If you have issues with audio levels, this is also worth checking the codecs used.

How do you calibrate the POPs?

I was able to increase gain to obtain a reduction in errors. (Gain done mathematically)

I do not think this is possible. You can only calibrate what is on your side as far as I know.

I have built a simple oscillator and set its output measuring with a volt meter. Then set up a call with a friend having him measure at his end. Our ATA devices can adjust the levels both ways. Fine.

However, can’t be guaranteed calling other locations you will get/or need the same gain setting for error free.

Assuming that VoIP.ms POPs are consistent, can we assume the end equipment ATAs meet some standards? “Bell System” for example. Resource to test our end points?
